Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Retail Manager to oversee the daily operations of our estate sales. You will be the one to ensure smooth running of operations to maximize sales and minimize costs. The ideal candidate will have experience as a retail manager, have experience leading a team, enjoy visual merchandising, be a quick learner, and enjoy leading a team towards meeting sales goals. An effective retail manager will be able to motivate personnel to perform according to their maximum capacity. The goal is to manage our estate sales in ways that boost revenues and add growth to the business.

Responsibility

  • Organize all estate sale operations -from setup, through pricing, and sale days – and allocate responsibilities to personnel
  • Supervise and guide staff towards maximum performance
  • Prepare and control the budget for each estate sale aiming for minimum expenditure and efficiency
  • Monitor stock levels and ensure proper stock is maintained daily
  • Exhibit excellent customer service by welcoming, offering help, answering questions, and handling customer complaints to maintain the company’s reputation
  • Inspect and audit all aspects of each estate sale to ensure they are in compliance with the company standard
  • Keep abreast of market trends to determine the need for improvements and product cycling
  • Assist with analyzing sales and revenue reports and forecasts
  • Facilitate the staffs use of company checklists and procedures
  • Oversee product research and pricing
  • Provide enthusiastic in-depth product knowledge including features, benefits, and overall value to both staff & customers.
  • Facilitate the transporting and maintenance of supplies needed for each estate sale

Skills

  • Proven experience as a retail manager orother managerial position
  • Experience in field visual merchandising, including interior displays and space utilization is a plus
  • Previous experience in resale is a plus
  • Knowledge of retail management best practices
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to changing environments of different homes, including multi-level stair use. Regular moving of furniture along with regular cleaning and organizing the contents of each home can be expected. On occasion dust and allergens can be present. The noise level is often quiet, but can be moderate during sale days where customer traffic and conversation is present. The passage of customers on sale days can be anywhere from 250 – 700 people per day. Our team is expected to sell, answer customer questions, move up and down stairs while placing items on hold and potential outdoor placement for garage/shed positions during sale days.

Additional Information

This position is full time with a changing location (typically within a 25 mile radius of Ferndale, MI). Typical work hours between 9 am to 6 pm, M-F. Weekends/holidays may be required but rare. Must have a reliable vehicle and comfortable with loading and transporting supplies. College Degree Preferred. Must qualify to be legally employed in the US without sponsorship. No relocation – residents of the Detroit Metro area only.
