Unlike a garage or yard sale, an estate sale is on a much larger scale and is designed to sell any and all contents that remain in a home after a major life transition. Our company sells the items the client is not taking with them when they move. This position has a multi-dimensional focus: Estate sale setup, merchandise pricing, sale day customer service, and estate sale breakdown.

The ideal candidate will be innovative, flexible, hard-working, and able to work both independently and cooperatively with a team. This individual should be able to think on their feet, be customer service focused, and form ongoing customer relationships. This person must be a “people person” who is interested in forming customer relationships and enjoys the challenges of a growing estate sale company.

Major Areas of Responsibility

  • Drive to sale locations
  • Clean and organize homes for estate sale staging prep
  • Lift and move furniture and group items together for aesthetic purposes to reflect the company brand
  • Remove and reinstall doors and cabinets when needed
  • Research, photograph, price, and create descriptions for all product in the homes
  • Greet and assist customers during sale days
  • Carry furniture to customer vehicles
  • Restage product during sale days / assist customers to lead purchases
  • Gather and load supplies post-sale

  • Assist in providing customers and clients with an exceptional estate sale experience.

Estate Sale Setup

  • Organize the contents of the home while working alone or as a part of a team.
  • Self-motivated independent room staging and design
  • Clean individual items and particular areas of the home including dusting, sweeping and vacuuming.
  • Gather trash within the home and physical removal to the curb.
  • Move furniture within the home.
  • Follow checklists pertaining to the task at hand.

Product Pricing

  • Utilize personal smartphone or company devices to search approved databases for researching product
  • Price product based on company guidelines
  • Photograph and create online listings for products to be listed in online store
  • Apply barcodes and price tags in line with company standards

Sale Days: Greeting and Assisting Customers

Estate Sale Breakdown

  • Assist the team in the final closing of the sale.
  • Adhere to end of sale checklist.
  • Organize, pack and load supplies.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to changing environments of different homes, including multi-level stair use. Regular moving of furniture along with regular cleaning and organizing the contents of each home can be expected. On occasion dust and allergens can be present. The noise level is often quiet, but can be moderate during sale days where customer traffic and conversation is present. The passage of customers on sale days can be anywhere from 250 – 700 people per day. Our team is expected to sell, answer customer questions, move up and down stairs while placing items on hold and potential outdoor placement for garage/shed positions during sale days.

Additional Information

This position is part-time with a changing location (typically within a 25 mile radius of Ferndale). Typical work hours 10 am to 6 pm, M-F. Weekends/holidays may be required. College Degree Preferred. Must qualify to be legally employed in the US without sponsorship. No relocation – residents of the Detroit Metro area only.
