Job Summary

We are looking for a creative retail Sales Associate and Visual Merchandiser to increase sales, capture shopper attention and to provide an excellent in-home experience. This position has a multi-dimensional focus: on creating captivating visual displays that convert shoppers into buyers, drive branding and sales objectives and maximize profitability along with establishing and creating customer relationships and delivering excellent customer service. The ideal candidate will be visually creative, innovative, flexible, able to both work independently with little to no supervision but also cooperatively with a team. This person must be a “people person” who is interested in forming customer relationships and enjoys the challenges of a growing estate sale company.

Primary Responsibilities (Sales)

  • Welcome and greet customers as they enter the home
  • Offer help and provide direct assistance to customers
  • Provide in-depth product knowledge including features, benefits, and overall value
  • Answer customer questions and concerns
  • Attend to unique and individual shopping needs of each customer including holding and reserving sold items
  • Cross-sell and encourage beneficial product add-ons
  • Upsell when appropriate; promote current sales, promotions, coupon deals, etc.
  • Encourage customers to sign up for our email list / leave positive online reviews
  • Properly utilize and distribute sold and review cards
  • Assist customers in leaving and entertaining offers on products in the home
  • Report anything unusual, or any major incidents, to management
  • Organize and re-merchandize station
  • Maintain a clean and tidy station
  • Be enthusiastic and informative about all products
  • Help create a positive environment in which to shop and buy
  • Take direction from and report to assigned manager

Essential Skills

  • Previous retail, sales and/or hospitality experience a major plus
  • Computer literate; familiarity using POS systems

  • Comfortable standing for long periods of time; can lift up to 30 pounds
  • Ok with on-call shift scheduling, working weekends, and holidays

Primary Responsibilities (Staging)

  • Define, design and implement a creative visual merchandising strategy in each room of the home
  • Create appealing and eye-catching visual displays that help lead the customer through the station and flow through the home
  • Produce cohesive interior displays
  • Set a clear image of the end result
  • Come up with, revise and present design ideas with management
  • Act in alignment to the organization’s culture, products, image and target market
  • Monitor timeline of each display and work within event deadline
  • Oversee the creation and completion of displays responsible for and brief management on direction / receive direction from management
  • Edit displays to promote and reflect festive or seasonal themes
  • Design stations based on city demographics and design trends
  • Display merchandise based on product value

Additional Information

This position is part-time with a changing location (typically within 20 miles of Ferndale). Typical work hours 10 am to 6 pm, M-F. Weekends/holidays may be required. College Degree Preferred. Must qualify to be legally employed in the US without sponsorship. No relocation – residents of the Detroit Metro area only.
